counseling approach
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist my training has centered around the Family Systems approach.
I believe we are emotionally connected and influenced/influential to those around us. When life difficulties or adjustments present themselves it can cause discomfort within ourselves as well as in our interactions with others.
Currently, I am earning a certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).

When EMDR is an appropriate treatment modality, I work with clients to reprocess traumatic or stressful events that have created maladaptive behaviors.
When using EMDR, it is believed that maladaptive behaviors have a root cause that is embedded in our memory networks and has not been fully reprocessed, therefore they have a strong emotional charge. This means that the brain and body react to it as if it is still happening, even years later.
Once a memory has been properly reprocessed it no longer has a strong emotional charge and you can process current and future events differently and in a healthy manner. You can learn more about EMDR as a treatment modality for birth trauma and pregnancy loss, here.
